Almost time...
We only have one more preparation workshop and then it's two weeks off and two weeks of choreography. It's getting down to the wire ladies, I want to make sure that everyone is prep and ready. I have posted some questions that I want you to think about and practice answering in preparations for the interview process.
Name your mayor and city council members.
What makes you happy?
Why did you select your platform?
"Sex-Sells". Do you
agree? Many people believe there is too much sex on television. Do
you agree?
How would you personally give service to
the youth/handicapped?
Do you think the world will be a better or
a worse place 100 years from now?
Would you accept $1,000,000 to leave the
country and never set foot in it again?
Can you share with us one of your funniest
experiences?
Will you share with us one of your most
embarrassing experiences?
Will you share with us one of your most
exciting or enjoyable experiences?
What is the best advice anyone ever gave
you?
What do you feel is your most valuable
material possession?
What are your hobbies? How did you
become interested in them?
paperwork and tid bits
I just want to make sure that everyone is on the same page and that we have everything that we need from you as a contestants. Here is the check list of papers/contracts that we need from you along with the deadline. I do apologize that this was not included in your contestants packet. just a reminder about the baskets. These baskets are for raising funds for the Teen program. All processeds go towards the pageant. Every contestant need's to have a basket donated. It can be a bunch of small things wrapped up in the basket or whatever they like but the basket's are due JUNE 20TH.
The Gala is going to be June 28th from 5-8:00 pm. It is going to be amazing!!! I got an email from our sponsor who is decorating for the Gala and it blew my mind! The gala has been advertised in two newspapers and it looks like it's going to the best night and the place to be in Davis County. The basket's need to be turned into Gwen, our judges chair. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know. The best way to answer me is through a text or email.

Tips on photography
I just wanted to give a few tips on how to do hair and make up for photography. We covered clothing but I just wanted to touch on everything else. Melissa sent this in respect to make up,
"
Make up:Wear lots and lots of powder. Darken your blush and lipstick a few shades and for pictures always remember more more and more. You will probably feel like you are wearing too much make up but I promise you it will look great! P.S Be sure to moisturize before and make sure your foundation matches your neckline. No glitter, the camera just see's it as a speck on your face"

What to wear?
We would like each of the contestants to wear the same thing. It will make the pageant look clean, uniform and fabulous! So we decided that everyone needs to wear black top and bottom or dark colored jeans.
~Stay away from heavy patterns
~ look for interesting necklines
~Do not over accessorize for an example: do not wear huge earrings and huge necklace. One or the other.
Keep in mind that Melissa can do some editing but limited and the sessions are right after each other so PLEASE come ready for the pictures. No change of cloths.
You might recognize this little lady! Before she was Miss Utah Kara Arnold was Miss Davis County and worked with our favorite photographer Melissa Papaja! Kara wore black, a nice neck line, kept her jewelry simple and her make up clean and bright. Perfection!

Interview
Ladies!!
What a great workshop! I hope that none of you guys are too overwhelmed! I just wanted to post a few points so that they are not forgotten!
1. Be mindful on how you enter the room! Most contestants think that no one can see them until they arrive at the podium. Not true... we can see you. Hold your head up and be proud. Remember to SMILE!
2. You will be standing during your interview so wear comfortable shoes, be mindful of wiggling. The podium is clear so the judges can see everything. One year I had a contestant that played with her one shoe during interview and that was all the judges noticed and remembered about that contestant.
3. It's ok to talk with your hands....within reason... keep your hands on the podium
4. Dont wear loud distracting jewelry. Sparkle should be reserved for the stage and not interview.
5. Be mindful of hem lines and neck lines. We want the judges to see us as professional, appropriate young women. They dont need to see too much of us.
6. It's ok if you dont know the answer. Come prepared with statements that help you out of a bind when you dont know. For an example; "That's a really good question, I'm afraid I'm not sure of the answer but now I'm really curious what it is"
7. Prepare a 30 second closing statment. This statement is anything that you feel you want the judges to know about you, your strengths and what makes you unique. Keep it short and appropriate. Its ok that the judges dont know that you dont have a pinky toe, they dont need to know that.
Keep these in mind and just be your perfect self and you will do wonderfully! If you have any concerns or feel like you need more practice contact me and we'll set something up!
